Alverno Devine, DDiv
Program Manager and Bridging Facilitator

Guided by the values of integrity, respect, and innovation, Alverno Devine currently serves as a Program Manager and seasoned Bridging Differences Facilitator for the Kern National Network for Flourishing in Medicine (KNN). Each day presents a distinct opportunity to advance the KNN movement, fostering cultures of flourishing and bridging in academic medicine. Leveraging an extensive background in leading institutional, cultural integration of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging initiatives, Alverno leads and contributes to KNN’s Bridging Across Differences Toward Flourishing Initiative: Restoring civil discourse, viewpoint diversity, open inquiry and belonging in medical education spaces.

Alverno spent the previous 12+ years at Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) helping to lead the development, design and deployment of digital online website communications, vision and branding, learning tools and numerous systems along with resources affecting all the MCW campus communities.

In addition, Alverno has served as an organization development specialist and accomplished facilitator, designing/delivering faculty and staff skills development experiences and programming in addition to leading various focus groups, workshops, retreats, learning sessions and department-specific learnings such as: Building a Culture of Respect and Trust, Resilience in Medicine, Influence Without Authority, Emotional Intelligence, Managing Work Relationships and many more.

Alverno was recognized in 2021 as a recipient of the President’s Diversity and Inclusion Award for his leadership as an MCW NCBI workshop facilitator and advocate. Alverno is at the forefront of establishing the KNN Bridge Builders Learning Community, designing virtual sessions and in-person workshops to equip leaders within academic medicine and the health ecosystem with deeper knowledge and skills. These sessions aim to help leaders successfully bridge relationships in their personal and professional lives and prepare them to cultivate flourishing environments within medical education communities.

Alverno holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration, as well as Master and Doctorate of Divinity degrees.

In a multifaceted career, Alverno brings a unique blend of skills and experiences dedicated to cultural reconciliation, brave space creation for effective dialogue and depolarization within academic communities.
